Fresh water flush

I decided to convert from salt water flush to fresh water flush on my R27. It is really stinking something awful. I figure I have 2 options. I really have a problem with having any connection between the fresh water tank and the black water tank. Maybe it's me, but I would rather not do that.
1) I can hook up the drain from the sink in the head to the flush side of the toilet. That way, I can put water in the sink and flush, or just hold the shower head in the toilet while I flush. Then I can use bleach or some sort of head stuff on occasion.
2) I can add a bladder tank. Maybe in that water tight (NOT) compartment just behind the head.

Any other ideas?

I do not think you have to worry about the fresh water side of the flushing toilet. Only the discharge side....

After all we hook our home toilets up to the same line we use for our sink that we use for drinking water.

You can install a charcoal filter in the vent line from the holding tank. This completely solved our odor problem. You can make one yourself (search TugNuts) or buy something like the Big Orange. Mine is in its third year with the original charcoal.

For the moment use the shower wand to put fresh water into the toilet for flushing.
Next you need to put a gallon of vinegar through the toilet a cup at a time letting it steep between flushes.
This might save the discharge hose - but likely you will have to replace the hose because the odor from the decaying microorganisms in the sea water has permeated it and will linger - and linger, etc.

Try an Airhead. It is a composting toilet. No flushing at all. There is a small tank that holds the urine that you do have to empty on a regular basis, but that is it. We get about 8 months of use on the solids before we have to empty it. Of course that is using the marina bathrooms when available. If a couple were to use it everyday you would get about 6 weeks use before emptying it. You can go on line and do as each you will be hard pressed to find a bad review. I have had it since I bought the boat and not a day of foul odor. The other benefit is (to late for you) I was able to use my holding tank for potable water. Maybe for you, you could either replace the tank for fresh water or clean it out really, really well and convert it to fuel.

Been fighting the same odor issue on QueenBee... We've taken the following steps to eliminate the odor:
- Built/installed a vent line filter (solved the odor when flushing)
- Use fresh water for flushing (use water from the head faucet)
- Replaced the pump-out hose with Shields Poly X Sanitation hose
In our case the odor was most noticeable in the engine compartment and cockpit... When I wiped the pump-out hose (horizontal section) with a rag I was surprised by the odor on the rag. Apparently sanitation hose will permeate odor if black water remains in the hose... Replacing the pump-out hose was easy but not fun and it did solve our smell issue.

No odor from mine when I add Odor Eliminator from West Marine each time I pump out. This and other similar products work well and lubricate the system. Easy solution that has worked for me.

Thanx for all the responses. Very helpful. I experimented this weekend. I used the shower head to flush and it seems a lot better. I believe I will add the charcoal vent thing and replace the discharge hose. Probably try the vinegar thing also.
