Has anyone had any success in filtering out the horrible taste from the water in the fresh water tanks. From day 1 when the boat was delivered, the water taste has been awful It is worse than the water that I put in and I have also tried external filters. I have tried multiple flushes with Bicarbonate and end up with salty water and many flushes to get rid of it. The water additives do not help. There seems to be no point in getting a water maker if it is going into the tank and tastes bad. It seems impractical to me to do extensive cruising in the NW and try to buy bottled water as I get further north. Are there any inline filters that work and if so, where is it mounted? Under the sink is pretty tight.
Thanks for any help.

What are you using to fill the tank - a garden hose? If so, you need to get a white hose used for drinking water. They can be found at a marine supply, RV supply, WalMart, etc. At WalMart, they also have a water filter, in the RV section, that can be connected to a water hose for filtering the while filling the tank.

Yes, I do use a white fresh water hose and I have a Culligan external filter. The water tastes pretty good coming out of that, but worse once it is in the tank.

Have you tried "shocking" the tank with 1/4 cup of bleach in a fresh water fill? Allow that to sit overnight, and run a bit of it through all the water lines. Then, empty the tank and refill with fresh water. If you detect any bleach smell or taste, flush it again and add a couple tablespoons of baking soda. By the 3rd fill, you should be rid of any "skank" in the tank. We have done this for years on boats and RVs, and have had no issues with foul tasting water. When out cruising, we also filter our drinking water with a Pur pitcher/filter.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

I go along with Jim B, we've also done this for years, it works. The only thing I might add to the routine would be to run the boat a bit or drive it around on your trailer to mix everything up and then follow up on the flushing process JimB described. Let us know how it all works out.

Thanks. I will try that and let you know.

I had the same problems solved it by switching to WINE

Right after I purchased my R 25 in 2008, a friend alerted me to the fresh water tank challenge: Steve came up with his solution (literally) which I followed------Any Time that the boat is sitting still for a long time without use, pour a Fifth of the cheapest Vodka you can buy, into the fresh water holding tank. Run it thru the lines a bit, then sit back and relax.
When you return to using the boat, there will be pleasant vapors as you empty out that tankful, and the fresh water you add from then on, will be wonderful !!!!
Works for me !

Hey...if you like it shaken not stirred, add a little dry vermouth.

we haven't use our hot water much but yesterday I was washing dishes and the water smelled highly sulfur? any thoughts?

Thanks, Jim, for the great info on shocking a tank. There is some additional information from a previous post I found helpful too, posted by our favorite CD Tom Cat 255 owner, Thataway-see http://www.tugnuts.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1715.
