Fuel Economy on the R21 (Ohio river trip)

Well today I filled it up and checked my records and all is correct and
very close. 1000 miles of River mostly downhill but about 40 of that
is uphill and another 10 of it is on flat water lake. 46 Gallons total
for a mpg of 21.73 I was for half of the trip at 1400 rpm and the
other half at 1600 rpm and got better mpg at 1600. Fun to brag
once in a while. Sure beats six gal per that water ski boats got
when I was a kid with 24 to one mix. Ready to put the spare cans
back in the boat so I better get at it before it gets real hot outside

Amazing, most of todays best fuel sipping 4 stroke speedboats are getting around 5 mpg. I wonder if all Ranger 21's get close to this on a regular lake?

According to Yanmar's operating graphs, 2000 rpm yields the best fuel burn. I never measured distance so I don't know MPG, but averaged approx. 0.6 GPH for 160 hours. Most of my running time was around 2500 to 2800 rpm, 5% at WOT and m/b 20% at less than 2000 rpm.

Off the top of my head Gene that's around 11 MPG if you were going 9 MPH and that's still real good for a boat.

An 18 foot Sea Ray with a GM Mercruiser 4.3 V6 is considered as one of the best gas mileage sport boats. At 9 MPH it gets 2.3 MPG and through its whole speed range including in gear at idle the best it can get is 5.48 MPG.

We measure "quarts per hour" in our R-21 Classic. It is great to own a vessel you can afford to operate. We just returned from a long weekend at Bald Eagle State Park which is northwest of State College, PA. We turned heads everywhere we went and the park manager stopped by our campsite requesting a ride!! Everyone just loves these boats!!!!!
