On my 2019 R-23, are the Garmin unit and the Yamaha unit supposed to communicate so that the fuel gage is accurate on both? Both of mine read two very different values.

on your Yamaha gauge go into the trip settings and reset it when you fill up next time. then whenever you want to know how much gas you have left look at the trip menu and it will tell you how many gallons it has used since you last filled up. i have been doing it on my r-27 ob for the last 2 years and it is very accurate when tracking the consumption. I tell the fuel dock how much i am expecting and its usually almost spot on.

For what it is worth on our 2015 R31 (Volvo), the Volvo gauge does NOT talk to the Garmin. I manually reset the Garmin upon fill up (or adding less than fill up) and use that alone - the Volvo nearly us me run out of gas when we first took possession of our boat.

The Garmin does talk, but you have to power it up fully first and power it down last. You also have to tell it manually how many gallons you added at fill up. I agree with the prior post the engine display is incredibly accurate. Every time I fill up I reset the “trip” computer. Tells you exactly how much gas your have burned since reset. When I fill up again an I am within one gallon every time.

My experience based on my last two trips to Alaska (3477 gallons of fuel used in total) was that the Garmin reported consumption that was 43 gallons more than was actually used, so accurate to within 1.2 percent.
