I was wondering when I set my fuel level in my Garmin does that accurately reflect the fuel in my boat?

I have found that yes the Garmin is remarkably accurate at calculating the fuel remaining if you add the correct amount of fuel. Fill it up and then add to 147gallons in an R27

Thanks!

Neighbor Bob....
All3 of my Ranger Tugs were accurate to the gallon on my Garmin. BUT, you have to remember to "add Fuel" to the Garmin when you add fuel to the boat!

Got it , I set the Garmin to 150 gallons after topping off the tank. Now I will add the amount I put in each time unless I top it off at which time I can indicate that it is full- correct?
Thanks Friend

I filled 14 more gallons than I should have... according to the Garmin e-gage last year. Meaning - kinda accurate - but not really.

If you use a kicker motor for those of us with outboards, the Garmin does not account for fuel consumption on the kicker.

I never enter the number of gallons added when filling unless I don’t fill it full. That sort of addition will add up to errors over time as no fuel flow meter system is perfect. When I fill up I know only one thing for sure, the tank is full, so I set the Garmin to “fill up all tanks” (it may be different text on different version of Garmin Chartplotter but there should be a similar option on all versions). What this does is recalibrate the Garmin every time I fill up leaving only the error in the fuel flow meter (Which is what it is. In my case about 5% in my favor). Any other entry will at a minimum carry the previous error forward which will build up the error over time.

Same for a Gen Set. Engine fuel gauge is all over the place as boat changes plan, but Garmin is reading fuel going thru the Engine Mine is spot on, also fill to 100 gallons and tell the Garmin all tanks are 100%.

Thanks that makes good sense - I am just indicating a full tank each time I fill which resets to 150 gallons.
