Recently I had a guest aboard my 2011 R25SC with the Yanmar engine and they became particularly affected by the odor of engine fuel or A chemical smell that made them Feel sick, more than just seasickness. I inspected the engine compartment and could not find any leaks but didn’t notice the smell. I also washed out the bilge with warm soapy water and odor is still there. I was just wondering If anybody else noticed this problem and had a solutions.

Thanks

I would check the fuel tank connections under the step as you enter the cabin. Also if you have a generator I would check around it. The panels around the step into the cabin are not tight on my boat and can leak fumes from the engine, fuel tank and generator compartments.

Is it a fuel smell? could be a foul bilge or perhaps the holding tank filter needs replacing. Might also be from the head, check the shower bilge. Maybe a leak in the hosing from the shower/head. Just suggestions given the age of the vessel.

Thanks for that. Was hoping someone had a “magic fix” from their personal experience with the problem. A step by step trace is next and, failing a solution, some kind of forced air ventilation to renew air through engine compartment.

Was the boat closed up for a while?

No boat has fairly constant use in summer months.
