Just received our new full boat cover for our Ranger 29. We can rest well knowing she is well protected in between the times we use her.
It is made out of Sunbrella. There are Plexiglas strips over the solar panels. They are strips for easy folding when it goes back into the bag. It weighs 80lbs

Merry Christmas to all!

Stuart,

It looks GREAT! I have a Ranger 21 and I have been told a full cover will not support the weight of snow. We have lots of snow here in Spokane and I know you do in CO. Can Sunbrella material support the weight of snow?

Thanks

Mark

My boat does not see snow. The big reason I have a Ranger 29 on a trailer is because instead of winterize it, I take to to a warm place for the winter. It is sitting in southern California this winter, and will be in Mexico next winter.
We cruised for 5 weeks in Oct to mid Nov. We just got back two nights ago from another trip out there and I will be going back in January, March, and April. Then we will bring her back to Colorado for the summer. Great boating here in the summer!
As you can tell by now we like to boat all year around. I will never store my boat in the salt water. I just feel better flushing her out, cleaning her up real good and now putting the new cover on and sitting back knowing she is not rotting from the sea or the sun.

There are some places on the east coast that build a real nice cover that will handle the snow. You do need to assemble and frame that they build to the boat for the cover to rest on. Real high end stuff. They do small boats to real big monster yachts. If you want I can try to find there website again. It has been awhile since I researched them.

Stuart,
Maureen and I lived in Castle Rock for five years. While living there, we had our Catalina 25 Tenacity. She saw little use due to the lack of substantial water in Colorado. Where do you use your boat in Colorado????? We kept Tenacity up at Grandby Lake for one season.... not much fun. Trailed her to Powell every year for a couple of weeks but that was it.

Thanks!
David

Hi David,
We have the most wonderful lake that is 33 miles long here in the southwest part of the state where we live. It is in between our town Pagosa springs and Durango. About a 1/2 hour drive from our house. Our end starts in Colorado and the other end is in New Mexico.
Our end is very nice and not crowded. It is easy to find a nice cove and just anchor for quiet weekend.
We do that every weekend. Pack up on Friday afternoon and we do not come home till Sunday night.
There is a small marina at our end and several bigger ones on the New Mexico end. The New Mexico side is very busy. We never go to the other end but maybe once every couple of years. It reminds us that we have it real good right where we are at.
I know where you are talking about and you are right that there is not any real good boating over on that side. We truly have the best lake and ski area in Colorado. Wolf creek gets more snow then any other ski area in Colorado and it two, is not crowded.
We chuckle at all the people that want to go to Aspen and Vail and fight the crowds and pay the high prices. I never have to wait in a lift line at wolf creek. I am able to snowboard off of peaks that are over 11000 ft with pure powder, weaving through the Ponderosa pines and jumping off the water fall area. Not bad for a 48 year old guy.

Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas,

We just had a full cover created for our R-21 Classic. The fabric is commercial-grade awning material guaranteed for 15 years. It is constructed with internal bolt-rope kinda supports to take the snow load that we get here in the Dakota's. I do not know what it weighs because we have not had it off the boat yet, but I am guessing 80 to 100 lbs. Cost was 1,248. I would post a photo, but have not figured that out yet.

I may have missed it, but did you post who made the cover?

Stuart,
Thanks for the info! While I had looked at Navajo Lake on a map, we never went down to check it out. The only person we talked to about Navajo did not have good things to say about it. Should have checked it out!

Merry Christmas!

David,
The one thing I can say about that is not everyone likes the color blue, but it does not make blue a bad color.
I guess that is what makes us all special. We all see things through our own lenses.
Maybe someday you will be able to check it out an make your own determination.

Hope you are having a great Christmas day!
Many Blessings,

Stu

Berry,
I had the cover made by a guy in Oxnard Ca. I had spent the better part of the last year looking into the cover issue I had. I wanted to find the right person that I trusted and the price had to be fair. I talked to many canvas people and the prices I got all seemed to be between $3300.00 to $4000.00. I payed in the very low 3's
At the end of the day when it came time for me to do it, the right guy showed up. I always made it a habit to ask around wherever I was and get recommendations.
I am very happy with the choice I made. Nigel is a great guy and cares deeply about his end product.
The funny thing is I was telling him about the wonderful area we live in up in the mountains in southwest Colorado and he was very interested. He has a five year plan to get out of the Ca rat race.
So he and his wife are here in Pagosa springs for the next week looking at homes. It is funny how things unfold in life.

Here is is info.... Advanced Canvas... Nigel Rayson At 805-382-4606

I would think he would be able to do a cover for a 21, 25 and 29 because at this time he has those three sizes available to him in his area for a pattern. He has mine of course, and their is a dealer in Ventura that has the 21 and 25. I bet that dealer gets a 27 at some point.

Let me know if you need any other info,

Stuart
