Galley faucet water pump

My galley faucet water pump works well, but it has started giving a thumping sound about every 5-7 seconds after I turn off the water, as if it's still pumping. At first I thought my tank might have less water than the gauge showed (1/3 full), and it was trying to pump when there was not enough water to pump. I filled the tank, and it still makes the thump. I have to turn off the water pressure on and off each time I run water. Any suggestions? Also, where is the pump located? I bought my boat new and have a manual for almost everything, but not for the water pump. Boat is a 2016 Ranger Tug 25SC.

Might be the intake screens on the pump (which typically screw off for cleaning). Or a small leak somewhere such as a poor faucet seal. Or air in the lines or the hot water tank (run hot water for a while to try to clear it). Probably some other things I'm forgetting.

Or might be the pump itself, which happened to me and went away when I replaced the pump. The latter turned out well, as we got a quieter variable speed pump, and it was not difficult to replace.

My guess is that you have air in the lines. For my pump, the instructions say to turn off the pump switch, turn on ALL the faucets (and hot and cold sides), turn on the pump switch and let the water run until you don’t hear any sputtering. Then turn the faucets off, starting with the faucet closest to the pump.

Our pump gets loud when there is air in the pump. Very quiet when operating normally.

I have an R-23, so I can’t help you on the pump location.

I think the pump on the R25SC is the same as our R27C. It is in the starboard cockpit locker just aft of the water heater near the wall.

If the check for air described above doesn’t resolve it I suspect a slow leak. Check that the head faucet is fully shut off. Then check under each sink at the supply connections for any water. Also check the clear plastic filter on the pump output for water leaks or air bubbles.
