Garage Size

I am in the process of designing a garage/shop for boat storage, and want to ensure I make it large enough to accommodate either an R29 or R31 sedan. My current plans have the bay depths at 40', and the doors at 12'w x 15'h. Should that suffice for the R31 on the trailer?

I know the height on the trailer, but the length on trailer isn't listed. So that's really what I'm looking for.

You have to be under 14' to travel down the freeway, so I would imagine that a 15' tall door would be sufficient. Anything 10' + wide should be good too.

My R27 was just delivered to my back yard. I had a 12' opening and had plenty of room. I believe the big boy trailers are 10' wide? At least the wheels are 10' apart, otherwise going down most roads would be a problem.

So can anyone actually verify what the length of the R31 on the trailer is. I know the door size should work but am looking for more info on the depth.

I'm building an addition to an existing garage to house my 27' RT and it will just barely fit in 38' deep, inside dimension.

I would think you are tight on the depth if you plan on leaving it on the trailer. The 29 is 33 overall so the 31 would be 35 overall..the tongue of the trailer is about 5-6ft past the boat. I would suggest you go 50 ft. It really doesn't add a lot of cost for the 10 extra feet and you never have enough room in the garage. You should make sure you have at least 4 ft on each side of the boat so you can work on the sides and fit a ladder everywhere..my 29 is 13 ft 3in tall on the trailer.. I'm not sure of your plans but if you use scissor truesses for the roof , you gain extra height inside if you are going with a peaked roof.. But with your 16 foot door you are getting pretty tall . Not sure if you have height restrictions..

Ok just went to my trailer and there is about 10 ft more trailer then boat so with my set up you would need 43 ft for boat on trailer for my 29

Excellent, thanks for taking an actual measurement for me. Sounds like I'll put this in the 48-50' depth range to play it safe. Wow.

Check out a fold away trailer tounge kit for the trailer. If it would work on that size trailer it would save a lot of space.
My buddy has one on his trailer and it works great, his is a much smaller rig.

The other option would be to put the boat on blocks in the garage and keep the trailer outside. As I said that was my trailer others may not be quite as long. I don't know if you can get a foldaway tongue in that weight range. but is worth a look

You will find that a 15 foot door will be special order. Go with a 14 or 16. A 14' door will require a 16 foot ceiling height and should give you the clearance you need. Plus I heartily agree with a 50 foot depth as I have a 45 and it is a bit tight sometimes with my motorhome.
