Thanks Baz

Your post canot be easier, it is perfect, wonder why garmin doesn´t explaine it that way. The pictures are a nice touch. Thanks to guys like yo we have happy beginners like me.

Glad that it helped. 🙂

I feel lucky to have run into the Garmin Man at the Ranger Rendezvous.

He put in the newest version of sofware in my Garmin 540S. It was quick 'n easy, though I do sympathize with those who have technological obstacles getting updates. It's enough to fry somebody's transom!

HI BAZ
Is me again, now that I updated to version 5.3 when I start the GPS a note comes out (MAR DATA SUBJECT TO RECALL DO NOT USE FOR NAVIGATION), any ideas.

Sorry - I can offer no advice other than for you to call Garmin Help Desk at 800-800-1020.

Good luck. 🙂

Hi BAZ
Is me again, I wrote to GARMIN, and it is not a problem with the updated version 5.3.

The problem is tha I have 2 Blue Vision cards that have a recall so when I updated the software it alarmed me of the recalls. Garmin is going to send me 2 new cards.

See the recall page http://www8.garmin.com/bluechartrecall/

Thanks

I was wondering if there's a latest Garmin 5212 update bulletin somewhere. I want to check Garmin's latest software version number with what I have installed on my R-25.

Bruce ????? You have in the past figured all this out..... Thanks.

Go to the 5212 page on the Garmin website and click on the Software link on the right side. The current release is 7.40. Download the update and follow the instructions to install on a SD card. When you insert the card into your 5212 it will also update your other Garmin devices if needed.

From the summary for the last few 5212 releases:

◦Added handling for AIS-MOB and AIS-EPIRB devices.
◦Added support for clearing AIS and MARPA-related message banners across networks.
◦Added an Always Off setting to the other vessels collision alarm so that users do not have to disable the alarm each time the unit is powered on.
◦Added the ability to share collision alarm settings over networks whenever they are changed.

◦Fixed potential shutdown related to display of MARPA and AIS targets.

◦Fixed issue with sonar drawing where incoming data would occasionally be obscured.
◦Fixed issue with drawing some types of bridges on the Fishing Chart.
◦Fixed potential issue with determining shapes for buoys.
◦Added ability to sort Other Vessels list by name and distance.
◦Added range to data displayed for AIS vessels when details are enabled.
◦Fixed issues with system and sonar voltage alarms.
◦Fixed issue with tracking total fuel onboard when dealing with very large values.
◦Fixed potential issue when receiving error messages from a GDL 40.
◦Fixed issue with labels for depth logs displaying depths greater than 1000ft.
◦Fixed issue with label for sonar cone diameter in Fish Eye 3D.
◦Improved appearance of overlay data when viewing sonar in simplified Chinese.

◦Addressed issue from v7.00 where water speed calibration values entered during startup wizard would have no effect.
◦Fixed potential instability when performing software update on a unit in demo mode.

Yes... and thanks. Problem is the download file is a *.exe file that's totally useless to me having an Apple computer. Garmin needs to be hardware agnostic.

I need to check what software version level my 5212 is at to see if this latest one is applicable.

Barry, I have the latest update on a SD card and will be glad to help you install it at Bremerton.

Herb: Thank you... and yes I'd like to take you up on your kind offer to use your SD card when at Bremerton. Does it contain the version 7.4 ?

I went to my boat this morning and obtained the following info from my Garmin 5212 and the GHP 10 Auto Pilot hardware.

Garmin 5212
Garmin5212-SW-version.jpg

Garmin GHP 10
Software Version 3.10
ECU Version 2.70
Unit ID 3594840106

Garmin GHC
Software Version 2.70
Unit ID 3588080017

From the Garmin web site at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3637 it seems I've missed several updates since updating to version 5.90 in August 2009... 😱

I've missed 6.10/6.20/6.30/6.40/6.50/6.60/6.80/7.00/7.10/7.20/7.30 and lastly 7.40

Don't know if Version 6.70 was skipped by Garmin for some reason ?????

These are the install instructions for using the SD card as I posted back in August 2009 -- hopefully they still hold for 7.40.

1. Power up the Garmin 5212 (and Autopilot if present)
2. Insert SD card into slot under the left located dust panel flip lid. Push card in until it clicks and holds its position. The card's label should be facing starboard and its contacts facing to port and the write-lock switch on top. (Write lock switch is usually a different color to the SD card's body color, and in my case it was yellow)
3. The Garmin should now auto discover the SD card. If not, then push on it and then pull it out and reinsert it.
4. The Garmin screen should now display "Update Software" and "Manage Card" buttons and the main window should display "Data Card" and "Software Update Card".
5. Pressing the "Update Software" button will start the software update process.
6. Follow the on screen instructions.
7. Expect the complete process to take close to 10 minutes.
8. When the software update process completes the Garmin device will reboot.
9. Now check that the software was updated by navigating the menus starting at the Home screen via Configure->System->System Information. This will show all the gory details and in my case it showed v5.2...
and for this latest upgrade it should show v7.40.
10. Remove the SD card by pushing it in slightly and letting it release. If you have sausage sized fingers it may be difficult grabbing the card to pull it out.

I actually have the 7.3 update which fixed the shutdowns from 7.2......7.2 was a dud for me. It looks like the 7.4 update does some AIS stuff that I want, so I will be downloading and installing before Bremerton. So I will have the 7.4 update to share with you in Bremerton.

7.2 update was constantly crashing for me. I had to go to 7.3 to stop the crashing.

Hopefully the v7.40 does not crash your 5212... bummer if it does, and of course a warning for me. 😉

OK, downloaded 7.4 and installed on my 5212. It is now on my SD card and will be available to you at Bremerton. I should not forget to bring the card, as it is the one I use in our Nikon camera....more space on it than I ever use before deleting photos that I move over to my laptop, so a good dual use of card.
