Does anyone have a Garmin 5212 or 7212 for sale? You may have upgraded your nav unit and have the old unit sitting around and wondering what to do with it. Our 5212 is no longer working, Garmin is no longer providing support for the older units and we'd like to buy a used working replacement.

I’ve read that the Garmin 7212 has a much faster screen refresh speed than the 5212. And it looks like the 7212’s connectors are the same as the 5212. If my 5212 died I’d be looking hard at a used 7212 to replace it. Please let us know what you decide to do and how it works out!
PS: Someone on another forum mentioned that the connection collars are different between the 5212 and the 7212 even though the pin-outs may be the same.

For my money, If my 5212 bit the dust, I think I would replace with a newer 7612. Supposedly you can just swap it out with the existing and everything will work. You may have to modify the opening a little for it to fit in.

I think the biggest issue to watch for is the sonar. as the 5212 has the GSD 22 and newer 7612 might have this built into the chartplotter as an XSV model or a seperate GSD 24/26 unit. so some cabling might be different.

You might have to check that out, but Garmin told me it was an easy swap of plug and play. I also think that the exterior GPS antenna will no longer be required.

I had to replace my 5212 because the radar and depth sounder plugs would not function. Replaced with new 4212 Touch, This unit does not have all the bells and whistles of the 7612, but works just fine for a Ranger. You are welcome to have my 5212 , you may be able to fix the rear plugs, everything else functions.
