Hi folks,

My Chartplotter on my 2018 R23 as developed a bit of a problem in that it is not displaying Total Fuel Economy, or Engine Fuel Economy, properly. By properly I mean that it does not agree with the Yamaha Information Display, nor does it agree with what I know, and calculate, to be correct.

We typically get between 2.1 and 2.6 mpg when cruising, the Garmin, which had been agreeing with the Yamaha on this number, is now reporting between 0.25 and 0.45 mpg, while the Yamaha gauge is still showing the historic norms. It does not seem to impact how fuel remaining is calculated as that was correct when I filled up last, but it is disconcerting and I would like to have it show correct numbers.

This began immediately after I filled up. I loaded 33.4 gallons on board and told that to the Garmin. It told me that the fuel loaded exceeded the capacity of the tank, which by calculations is correct. I changed that to "Fill all tanks" and went on my way. it was then that I noticed the discrepancy. I am thinking that I somehow goofed things up by attempting to "overfill" but don't know for sure. I am wondering if anyone else has had the same experience.

I have since filled up again but did not have a chance to take the boat out after that. I am hoping that the problem is corrected. I will also schedule time with Garmin at the Rendezvous to see if they might know what is wrong and can correct it. In the meantime I share with other Tugnuts ;-)

Thanks, and I look forward to meeting many of you in Roche in a week!!

My guess is that somehow you confused the Garmin software and I would not worry about it being a permanent issue. I'm sure either RT or Garmin at the Rondy will quickly sort it out for you.

When you get the 2,1 and 2.6 mpg what is your cruising speed with those read outs ? How many people on board etc ?

Baz,

The range accounts for different speeds and loads but we are talking between 1 and 6 people, (yes with 6 people onboard I got up on plane and got 2.1 mpg ;-), more than once), and typical cruising speed of 20-25 mph. I usually start with a full tank of gas, 1/2 tank of water and no black water.

I don't track economy close enough to determine anything closer than that.

Hey Jim,

Are you sure you're comparing the same fuel gauges? I'm thinking you might be looking at mile per gallon on one screen and gallons per hour on the other screen. These numbers will be drastically different while cruising. I can swing by your boat at the Rendezvous and have a look.

Thanks,
-Kenny

Hi Kenny,

I am sure. I have gone through the screens and choices and am familiar with the process. I have also reached out to Scott of Garmin and am hoping that they can look as well.

I am holding out hope that refueling again will magically fix the problem. We will see this week when I am up there again.

Thanks, see you at the Rendezvous.

Have you inadvertently changed the fuel capacity of the tanks in the Garmin basic information. Clues suggest this.

I will have to look at that although it is reporting Total Fuel Remaining properly.
