My boat came equipped with a Garmin AIS300 and I want to upgrade to an AIS800. I know it’s larger but I sure I can wedge it in. My question is cabling; since the AIS800 doesn’t require (hopefully) an external gps antenna will the existing power and NMEA2000 connectors fit? Don’t want to replumb if I can help it.

Adding the AIS800 should work for you. You may have to add another connector to the NMEA2000 backbone for connecting the AIS800 box. The AIS800 has two antenna connections; one to the VHF radio and one for an external antenna.

There's a yellow wire in the wire bundle from the AIS800 that MUST be grounded.

You will need to upload software to the AIS800 using the provided software on a optical disc or you can obtain it ... here is the setup software for the AIS800: https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=14363

You will need your MMSI and boat name.
