Does anyone know how to turn off the hazard warning when you have a course plotted? I have been able to turn off the alarm sound (a very annoying beep), but have not been able to find out how to turn off the visual. It blocks the bottom of the screen until you touch it off. Blocking important information. It is not so annoying in the wide open spaces of the Pacific Northwest, but here in the Gulf of Mexico ICW when you have a course plotted, it warns of every marker along the way....and there are a lot of markers.

A lot of reaching over and touching the OK spot on the screen. I am afraid that I will either wear out my finger or wear a hole in my screen soon.

I am serious, this really is a problem for me. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks, Herb

I looked through the entire manual and can't find anything about eliminating the visual hazard warning. I bet it is there because the lawyers required it and you probably can't remove it.

I think you are right. I cannot find a way to disable the visual alarm. I asked Garmin at Bremerton this question. If it knows the marker is there, why does it route us over it and then warn us about it. They said it just routes us close, it does not route us over the marker. I disagree, it routes me too close. I have tried adjusting the parameters of the guide to, without success. The alarm sounds even if you are not using autopilot. I usually have the route up for distance and time to destination and may not have the autopilot engaged. My boat could be on the other side of the channel and yet the alarm will still come on as I pass the marker.

Herb when I have a problem with an electronic gadget like a computer, GPS etc I rely on the 8 year old next door to fix it for me and show me what I need to know!

Walldog,
Do mean hardware or software?
I'm thinking of ordering V2 Vision to automatically set my route for me. I'm sure it will do much more and those pleasant surprises are a plus. However, with ActiveCaptain I can get by without the upgrade.
I have a 700 series Garmin and I don't get any alarms cruising the ICW. Mine may not be set up properly yet, and I am probably not smarter than a 5th grader.
Garmins' reply was rude and condescending to say the least. Shame on them.

Herb:

I'm curious... if you leave the Hazard warning message banner displaying and then proceed beyond the 'marker' will/does the message banner fade away ?

No, It stays blocking the lower part of the screen until I remove it by pressing on the ok spot.

Software, with the G2 vision chip and using "guide to" on the Garmin 5212. I can drive close to or over the marker without a course plotted and it will not warn me. With the course plotted though and autopilot OFF driving on the other side of the channel away from the marker, it still warns me, and the pesky screen stays up until I punch it off.

My alternative is to manually plot my course, making sure I follow the center of the channel. The sad part of this is that on the lower part between Port Isabel and Port Mansfield, the can buoys have been replaced with relocated markers on posts and numbered totally different. Garmin is warning of can buoys and markers that are not there. Further North most are in the right places except for occasional drifting from the winds. So it is using the marker's position on the chart to the Garmin plotted route, not my GPS position to the marker's position on the chart.

You can tell it is going to warn you because it outlines the marker in RED on the 5212's screen. I wish I could grab the course line and shift it over to miss the markers. Has anyone connected a mouse up to their Garmin? I have seen it done on other boats, but have not used it. Maybe that could work to modify the course.
