Hey fisherman. I have a 2018 R-23 with the Garmin 7610XSV and the original transducer (no chirp). The newer model tugs now come with the Garmin GT-15M in-hull transducer which has chirp. I would love to hear some feedback from anyone using that modality. The Garmin reps recommend a thru-hull type stating the in-hull model is muffled. I realize it won't read the temp but that doesn't matter to me. Has anyone changed to a thru the hull transducer and if so, what are your thoughts, what model, and where did you place it?

After further research, I bought a Garmin GT51M transom mount with chirp sonar, side view, and down view. (didn't want a hole in the hull). Haven't installed it yet.

Mr. KnightOwl, Can I ask how you are going to mount (with out) drilling holes in your boat, and the cable run to your GPS unit! Just curious. Bob (early-bird)

Regarding the Garmin GT-15M in-hull transducer , what is the depth rating for offshore ocean
Thanks
George

To my knowledge all Tugs and Cutwaters are equipped only with traditional transducers. Garmin offers additional transducers that greatly increase your ability to see what is below. I added Garmin's GT40-TM transducer. This transducer added Clear View (very good detail of the bottom showing structures), Side View (very good detail of what is outside of the boat's path), Traditional View, and water temperature. You can even switch between the old traditional view and new. The new transducer mounts on the transom and installation is not difficult. I have the 7612 chart plotter that I had upgraded to enable auto guidance, so when I plugged in the new transducer lead, everything worked.
