This line of Garmin Transducers provides incredible bottom detail. What is involved in this upgrade? Will the head unit display the enhanced image?

Thanks

You will need to replace your transducer to either a stern mount or a through the hull one (Garman transducer selection guide),depends on the gps unit you have on your boat if it will except it but I believe it too will show on the guide or you can find out from garman.
The through hull transducer will stick down about 2 inches which makes trailering a problem, the stern mount will need to run the wires from the stern to the helm, and drill holes in the stern area below the waterline.
I too looked at them and decided to go with a traditional unit. Good luck with your choice. Bob

The stern mount would seem the way to go, since I will trailer from time to time. I’ve asked if this would void any warranties . Also, wondering the impact on the quality of the images while underway with all the cavitatition generated by the propeller.

I saw your post in another thread saying you were installing the ClearVue on an R29CB. The transom mount transducers will not work on inboard engines due to the prop wash, so a thru-hull is required for inboards to keep the transducer forward of the screw.

FYI...
On my 2019 R29 CB the factory has installed my transducer on inside of hull just forward of the raw water wash down pump and aft of the starboard side battery. With the starboard side cockpit hatch open there's a cutout that allows a clear view of the transducer from the forward area of the locker if ever it needs attention. My understanding was that RT decided to have the transducer in this new location to obtain better results.

If you can clear your bunks on the trailer with plenty of room for error, a tro-hull transducer could be replaced where the factory one is now located, now all you need is a drill and a few strong drinks and your ready to install!
Plenty of you-tube videos, piece of cake!

also note that stern mount transducers do not work well in turbulent water. so best results will only occur at non planning speeds - i.e. trolling.

I have installed an outside transom mounted transducer leading the wire thru the transom above the waterline covering it with a stainless clam shell and copiously caulked in silicon. One issue is that transducer gets pushed upward when the stern comes down hard from a wave. Interference occurs when I go through wakes from other propellers. I have the transom mount set for zero so I know when I lightly touch bottom (for you west coasters 😱 😱 ) if you haven’t been aground you haven’t been anywhere. Also the two depth sounders never read the same even allowing for the offset. On the chart plotter it a number only, I like for the whole screen to be the navigating chart, the Garmin Striker is a moving screen mounted on the overhead cabinet.
