Garmin GHS 11 Handset on Flying Bridge?

The Garmin handset on the flying bridge has not worked since the boat was delivered by the dealer, I suspect a possible software mismatch issue or bad unit? Has anyone else had this issue or know the solution?
 
You need to make sure the handset is plugged in before powering up the main VHF

If it still does not work after that then you need to check some wiring. It is a single wire that goes from the upper helm down to the lower.

If that fails then likely the handset or the main vhf have an issue
 
My GHS11 hasn't worked since I did the big software update back in April. So, I believe a software mismatch is the issue. I've tried Garmin's remedy on their support page but can't get past step 4 where the display is supposed to turn bright orange. Tim at Ranger Tugs is going to tackle it next time I see him. Garmin will also have a replacement unit for me at the Ranger/Cutwater Rendezvous in Roche Harbor in September if necessary.
