I had to do a reset of my Garmin gps the other day as the boat icon was traveling backwards and the screen was erratic in its movements. At the same time I was not able to turn the gps off and had to pull the Garmin spade fuse to turn it off. Tim Bates, at Fluid Motion, advised a reset by turning the house battery power off for a few minutes with the gps and autopilot turned on. This reset took care of the gps boat tracking and erratic movement of the screen. However when we returned to the dock yesterday, gps was still working correctly, I could not turn the gps off by the normal push and hold the power button, I had to resort to pulling the spade fuse. Has anyone else experienced this situation and or know of a solution?

My problem happened over the weekend when Garmin support is closed. This morning I called them to explain the problem, they said to start with a software update as mine had not been done in a while. The update, while the boat sits in my driveway, seems to have corrected the “will not shut off problem”. I mention this in the event other’s experience the same situation as me. For my money the Garmin support team is very helpful. We have the Active Captain app on our cell phone which makes the software updates much easier, in my opinion.
