I have a new 2015 Cutwater 28 with the Garmin 7212 Chartplotter and the GSD 22 sounder with the Airmar P79 adjustable in-hull transducer. I am thinking about replacing the sounder with the Garmin GSD 24 which has had great reviews. My primary use of the sounder besides monitoring the bottom depth is fishing for salmon, crabbing and shrimping in Puget Sound, Strait of Juan de Fuca and British Columbia. I would be interested in anyone's experience with the GSD 24 in the Cutwater 26/28 or Ranger Tugs.

Thanks,
Mike

Seashanti,

This is a great "black box" and allows multiple transducers to be used simultaneously at least on the 7612 unit. You can run the chirp transducer, the side view down view transducers and or really high powered transducers to see deep. I never really understood the deep use except for commercial boats as you can't fish that deep with sport equipment. I run the Airmar 25 degree high wide transducer on my boat and the resolution is exceptional. I use it to locate fish then try to drift over the target fish with super light tackle. I believe the GSD24 transducer is "built in" the 7612 but you should check with Garmin to see if what I am using is the same as what you will purchase. I will pm you with a website for more technical information. As an aside, seeing the fish won't make them bite however.
