I am a new user and likely a silly question but I can’t seem to keep the “north up” orientation on my Garmin 7612 chart plotter. Can someone give me a tip?

It is apparently set up for "course" or "Track" up. I don't mean to sound like a wise ass, but have you looked in the owners manual for the GPS? If you do not have the manual, Garman has it available (free) on their website.

I prefer "track up" myself Its easier if you let a guest navigate.

No question is "silly" if asked honestly

From your chart screen, select menu, Chart Set-up, Chart Appearance, Orientation, you will have three options 1. North up, 2. Heading up, 3. Course up, when selected hit done.
Hope this gets you on your desired course! Bob

Thanks for the tip. I still have much to learn and the manual, while thorough, can be a bit of a beast.

ICYMI or for anyone else interested, there was a good "as the prop turns" RT factory video on the Garmin chartplotter 2 years ago: https://youtu.be/O_9h1XNBN4A

I don't recall if this exact question was covered but overall I thought it was very well done.
