Maybe someone can lend a thought to this one. We finished using the boat in August up in Anacortes Wa and radar was working fine. Boat shipped to Florida and no radar.. No display, No sound. Both fuses ok 10a and 7.5 a For some reason the chartplotter does not see the radar system. Checked plug connections and seem to be ok.

Anybody got a idea when could be the problem.. Been studying the manual to see if another fuse somewhere else. None that I can find.

There has been an issue with the plug that goes into the radar dome. When we had a Rendezvous last year we had Garmin present. They actually took apart our dome units, replaced the plug assembly and then applied dialectic grease. Apparently this is a possible issue because when our dome is down and the boat trailered the is a possibility of water entering the connection and corrosion occurring. There is also supposed to be an o-ring of some sort that is missing many times and this is often the root of the issue. I was very busy during the rendezvous and did not see exactly what they did. Perhaps this is your issue.
 
Like Mike, this also happened to us, after a long trailering. Our O ring was missing thereby letting water in and corroding the connection....even thou it did not look corroded. We had a new connection and O ring sent to us, replaced the old one and added the dielectric grease and we were good to go. Question...does your GPS work at all with the radar problem? Ours did not and we had to disconnect the radar connection from the back of the 5212 in order for the GPS to work until the new part came to us and we installed it.
 
When the radar is in the transport position (down) it's possible for water to enter the dome through the electronic connection plugs. We found about a cup in ours when it was replaced while we were cruising in Alaska last summer. Our boat is almost totally in salt water and the water in the dome was fresh. I have been thinking of putting a transport cover over the dome, like a grill cover. It would also protect it from bugs during travel.
 
Same issue as described above. Lots of water got into the dome and fried it. I replaced it which was easy.

Did you get an error code 006? Along with the notice that the Garmin plotter could not access radar? Error codes help diagnose the problem. See my post on Leaking Radar Dome.

All from a $1 part. I can imagine Garmin never thought about radar domes being on their side in the rain.

I highly recommend that you call Andrew. He can help you navigate this.

Interesting thoughts on this radar issue. The chartplotter does work.. But no sound of warm up for radar. Just like its not there.. I will pull dome cover off to look at inside for possible water. The dome sat down for couple weeks in Anacortes Wa before it was shrink wrapped for trailer to Georgia.

A 0 ring missing would not be the first time a factory left a fitting out. Soon as I get to boat will check all that out. Sounds like the issue is corrision at connection.

Sunday pm.

Back to boat and radar. Have 12.5 power goin to radar.. everything dry inside the dome.

No error codes but did see a odd thing on the Events log. A lot of Abnormal power shut downs.. Strange..

Now its time to call a expert.

The radar problem solved. And yes its water intrusion into the connector for network. both ends of plug corroded,, green green.. O ring in place. O ring for power plug broke But no problems there.

My elect whiz bang guy says he has a fix for this plug problem. Although we both wonder why the 0 ring failed to keep the water out.

Radar on way back to Garmin.

The issue of the hd 18 radar dome not working after being shipped from Anacortes to Georgia.

As for covered by Garmin warranty they did replace the dome plug and my elect tech guy did the cable. Ranger had not installed the strain relief cable plastic at bottom of radar dome.. This may have caused pulling on cable. Also found that the power cable O ring was broke. Factory problem there.

Have not called Andrew yet but will do that next. have two bills here totaling 350.00. From what I am hearing on the net is that several boats have had this problem. Which makes me believe that Ranger installation gets a little faulty at times Also had a cost of shipping to Garmin.

I would suggest to all Ranger owners that have radar to check to see if the plastic squeeze cover is at bottom of dome. Also check to see if the cables are tight. Its a expensive fix and if not covered under warranty you best hang onto your socks
