Garmin Transducer

Is there an upgrade transducer that would swap out existing, 2017 Rt29. Have looked at having thru hull transducers done would need two due to angle of bottom of boat, so can’t see doing that.

Not being familiar with RT29s, can you tell me how much angle are we talking about? Also, with 2 transducers, are you looking to upgrade to side scan sonar? Transducers transmit a cone of energy, and do not have to be squarely facing the bottom to work. So if your cone is 30 degrees and the bottom has an angle of 10 degrees, then your installation should work, unless there are other factors (ie, thru hull installs).

Sorry about the sarcasm! How many transducers do you have now? I see you have a command bridge, does both GPS have there own transducer or is one just a repeater? Garmin's web site has a PDF on the types of transducers. I have the one that bolts thu the hull and it is networked to show the bottom on two separate GPS (MFDs). Which can be done in two separate ways that I know of. A black box sonar unit or MFDs that can be networked.

I was originally looking at Garmins Clearvue, the requirement for a single transducer is a certain angle of the hull where mounted, only a few degrees, I believe the hull of the Rt29 easily exceeds this, requiring two transducers to
Merge the full image. As to why, well as a scuba diver and retired Navy Sonar Technician, I just can’t controllllll myself. LOL
So looking for other options, that could yield a better image... currently transducer is mounted in the rear, the only worse place would be behind the propeller!

I, too, am a retired Navy sonar (sub) tech. This is why I chimed in, even though I'm not familiar with this boat. And yes, Garmin has the feature of adding a second transducer, making it basically a side scan sonar. I've thought about doing this myself. Better to see with 2 eyes versus one.

PS. Based on what they have listed, it looks like the transmission cone is wide, so some angle shouldn't affect the performance of you system.
