My 5kw Cummins Onan generator does not have any anodes, and confirmed through Cummins tech support doesn't need any.
I was wondering why. Is it not subject to stray currents or galvanic cells like the engine?

I have a friend with the same generator, but several years older. He had to replace his mixing elbow ($600 part) due to perforation. Would zincs have helped prevent this, or is this a different type of corrosion.

Please, any thoughts on why the anodes are not needed and why the mixing elbow failed?

Thanks,

Hello Kip,

I would suggest contacting Onan directly to get the most accurate answer to this question.

Thank you,

Thanks Andrew.

I have contacted them three times through their website, Ask Powergen. It's hard to get through their "firewall" to actually discuss this. Basically they have said "the metals in the generator are similar", it has "low flow" and "it's a very small generator".

The manual doesn't show one, and the maintenance schedule doesn't refer to any.

Would you be able to shed more light on this or have a contact at Cummins who I could discuss this with technically?

Thanks,
