Generator install Question - R27

Has anyone installed a generator in a R27?

What was the model the factory would have installed in these boats?

Hello,

We were installing the 3.5 Westerbeke gas generator. Depending on what you are trying to power you could easily use a compact portable Yamaha generator that won't take up as much storage space and is quieter than most ones that are mounted inside the boat. However, with a portable one the ability to use it while underway is not recommended. Hope this helps.

This may be a dumb question why is it not recommended to use a Portable generator underway? I would think it be safer with the air flow taking the exhaust fumes out the back of the boat. or is it something electrical?
