Where is the Course Computer Unit (CCU) for the GHP 10 autopilot system located on a 2010 R-29? I'm trying to determine why there's a chart shift on the GPSMAP 5215 when I turn on the autopilot system.

If you search the site there are a lot of posts about this subject and fixing ..Mine is located behind the drawers beside the fridge...
Good luck

Funny, I talked with Garmin about the shifting early this morning.
They explained very nicely, not that I can remember it all but basically, it has to do with rather your display is set to North up or course up. and that the autopilot is giving you the real correct heading for your boat.
i will not embarrass myself any further except to say I was at the helm and when he talked me through it I now see that the shifting appears to work. I was not able to find a detailed explanation written in any of their FAQs.
But I had thought everything was broken when it was not.

I just wish Garmin had better written explanations.

There was a discussion about this at viewtopic.php?f=5&t=3615&start=0.

There are three settings for chart orientation: North up, Heading up, or Course up.

From the Garmin manual regarding heading information source:

The source for the display of the heading line on the chartplotter is determined by the heading line source setting (Auto or GPS Hdg) and whether heading information is available from a heading sensor. (Autopilot CCU in our case).
If heading information is available from a heading sensor and the source heading is set to Auto, both the heading line and the vehicle icon will be aligned to the heading from the sensor.
If heading information is available from a heading sensor and the source heading is set to GPS Hdg, the heading line will be aligned to the GPS heading, but the vehicle icon will be aligned to the heading from the sensor.
If heading information is not available from a heading sensor, both the heading line and the vehicle icon will be aligned to the GPS heading.

To access these settings, while displaying the navigation chart, select Menu, Chart Appearance. Next select Orientation or Heading Line, Source.

Hello TugNutters,
There is a lot of good information on this topic and I thought I might add a few tips on autopilots in general.

1. Pay attention to the chart notes about "Area of local magnetic disturbance". These areas not only effect your steering magnetic compass. They also effect the operation of any navigation accessories like the CCU that has a flux-gate compass built into it.
I was in my old sailboat going to Olympia and the auto helm suddenly went over 20 degrees, for no apparent reason. When I checked the chart I found out that I had just sailed over an "Area of local magnetic disturbance". The disturbance was strong enough to move my steering compass but also the flux gate compass built into my auto helm.

2.That brings me to my second point, keep magnetic materials and metal away from the CCU. This has been pointed out by others on the forum and is a rule to follow, especially if it is movable or temporary
Sometimes you may see the CCU mounted near a permanent metal fixture. This is OK because it does not move and can be handled during the calibration.

I added my GHP 10 system after purchasing our vessel and a question which has been in the back of my mind for awhile is the type vessel to select when working through the wizard process. I am not on our boat but if I recall correctly one of the steps asks for type vessel, i.e. power planning or displacement. The R-25 is actually in between, that is, I think it is considered a semi displacement hull. I just added a Mercruiser NEMA 2000 gateway module which allows me to now have my Cummins Smartcraft engine signals picked up on the NEMA network thus my GHP 10 now reads engine RPM for speed source as opposed to GPS. Therefore, took the autopilot back through the wizard process. I selected displacement hull but would like to know what others are using?
