I’m cruising the Great Loop in sections. I’m currently doing the Savannah to Norfolk section. The route is almost entirely on the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway (AICW). Yesterday and today, I had the EXTREME misfortune to encounter 12-15 Grady-White boats that are making a group trip. The boats operate single-ship in-trail on plane. These boaters have no regard for their wakes and they don’t discriminate. They wake EVERYBODY— big boats, little boats, anchored boats, fishing boats, kayakers. In a narrow section of the AICW yesterday, several of these knuckleheads passed within 15’ of my Ranger Tug 27 on plane. I’m not kidding.

Are there any Tugnuts out there who can give me a lead on who organizes these group trips? Are they factory sponsored? Is there a “Tugnuts” type forum? I would love to give the perspective of a boater subjected to their bad boat behavior.

That is a fun trip! So many different challenges along the way. Where were you when this happened?
