Hello all!

I purchased a Dyno (locally made in Seattle) 115 Amp-Hour deep cycle battery to replace my house battery to meet our power demands at anchor. We have a 2009 R21-EC.

I picked up my battery today and discovered that it's a Group 31 battery, which means it is longer than the factory house battery, which I believe is a Group 27. So long that I'm worried that it won't fit into the space provided for the factory batteries. Has anyone added a battery of this size to their R-21? Will it share the existing space with the factory starting battery?

If it's not a fit, I think I'd prefer to buy a lower capacity Group27 battery than put a battery box in the transom and run costly battery cables.

Now that I'm home from work I've had a chance to examine the batteries on my tug and I was able to pinpoint why this new battery looks so humongous- The factory batteries are not Group 27- they're Group 24, which definitely makes this group 31 battery considerably larger in length, by about 2 1/2 inches. The size difference between a Group 27 (the size I THOUGHT the batteries were) and a Group 31 is quite small. That's what I get for trusting my memory after not stepping aboard through most of the winter!

I guess I know how I'm spending my lunch break tomorrow - back to the marine store! Well, after I double-check in the morning that there's no fit.

There is always a way... And the big AH group 31 will be nice to have...

With the appropriately sized hammer you can make anything fit.....
