For those of you with older model tugs, has anyone purchased a set of gunwale guards (they come standard on newer models) and installed them DIY?

I've seen them installed on the newer models. I thought they looked good and gave the walkway some extra width. My only concern is all the screws used to secure them, they could potentially cause leaks.

I had them installed by my dealer before taking delivery last season. They do give added sense of security - my wife loves them. Their first attempt at the install was done incorrectly (upside down) and had to be redone. All of those screw holes had to be repaired with new gel coat (dealer took care of it to my satisfaction). Just be sure that you have them oriented correctly before you start drilling!

Thanks John. Excellent advice. "Measure twice; drill once".

I'm not a fan. To me they look like an after market add on. I don't generally have to go to the bow when away from the dock anyway but when I do I find the handholds on the cabin and the walk along the side of the boat to not be difficult.
