Hello!

Where can I get a couple of pieces of this (photo below) for my 2005 R21?

If you can't see the image, it's the plastic that's screwed onto the gunwale.

Thank you!

Penelope

Hello Penelope,

Click here (viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4755&p=34635#p34635) to view a recent thread about replacing those black starboard-type strips. Contact info for the supplier is included.

One tip on installing your NEW plastic trim pieces...DO NOT use FLAT HEAD screws since these act like little WEDGES which will tend to SPLIT the plastic pieces (EXACTLY as shown in your photo in the link). Rather, use PAN HEAD stainless screws. These will have a "flat washer-like" effect and hold the plastic in place while being less likely to split it at each screw hole. Go ahead and drill a counter sink with a 3/8" drill so the new panhead screws will sit flush or slightly below the top surface of the plastic once they are tightened.

Good luck with the repair!

Actually, you will want to "counter bore" for the pan head machine screws; this will result in a flat bottom recess for the screw, versus the "V" shaped bevel that results from "counter sinking". Use a forstner-type bit first to drill the counter bore to the desired depth to set the screw head below the surface of the material, then follow up with the through-hole. It may seam counter intuitive, but this sequence will deliver the best results. Try it in the opposite order and you'll immediately understand why. Don't ask me how I know this...

Thanks so much for the information! This is great. I'll take the pieces off right now and get them in the mail! Really appreciate it!
