Just finished installing a Standard Horizon GX2200 with built in GPS and AIS. The radio came with a free hailer. I decided to mount the hailer where the horn was mounted. My horn was not reliable so I decided to take advantage of the built in horn and intercom of the GX2200. The GX2200 has a built in fog horn as well as a regular horn.

I use Coastal Explorer nav program on a laptop and it supports the AIS feed from the GX2200. i often travel on rivers with Corp locks and hope the AIS will help see tows "around the corners" and help plan lock arrivals.

While I had the overhead panel down I replaced the cloth material which was starting to shed profusely. Bought material that appears to be the same from Sailrite. Also replaced the three white overhead lights with LED units http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss? ... 231B-3K-DB). Really pleased with the color and brightness of these units. The two red lights were already LED.

On March 9 I plan to leave from Sanford, FL and head up the St. Johns river to the ICW. Turn south and go through Lake Okeechobee to the west coast and go to St Petersburg. Then turn around and head back, Should be about a month long trip.

By,

Sounds like a great installation. I installed AIS specifically for my river trips and found it to be a great asset to contact the tows and strategically plan my arrival to the locks based on the tow's position.
I did the St. Johns river and the Okeechobee as well. It will be a great cruising experience. One month sounds a bit fast. Stop and smell the roses. There are some nice places along the way. St. Petersburg is a great place. Don't miss the Dali museum!
Have fun,
