To amuse on a Saturday morning—
We pulled out of Quayside Marina in Vancouver yesterday morning, hoping for the best on Georgia Strait. Even though the winds were below 15 kts, we knew there would be some swell issues given the long fetch to the NW. It was brutal, even by our standards (we are pretty thick-skinned about the rough stuff), so we bailed and went to Gibsons Marina. For those south of the border, Gibsons is famous for being the home of one of the longest-running CBC sitcoms called The Beachcombers. Good beer and scenery. The marina is in need of a makeover, however, but it is convenient to town and lots of good walks.
We got our slip assignment from the marina only to pull right into the middle of the filming of a Hallmark Christmas special. There had to be at least 50 crew and actors. We failed to get our tug into the shots, complete with the piles of snow on the docks and on the boats, and actors dressed for the middle of winter (in August!). But one of our clan is a centerpiece—Tug-alishus, a classic RT25—replete with a Christmas tree on the front deck and ornaments all around.
So look for this movie this winter (for those of us who can’t stand these movies, suppress your gag reflex, cause here it comes): A Christmas Sail. (Ugh). My wife disagrees.
Happy Saturday Morning. I hope everyone is out cruising somewhere interesting.
Jeff
