Hard Winter in Alaska - need help

Put the boat in the water today and have a number of issues that I can't find anyone here to look at it.

1. Check Engine blinking, alarm sounding with the Garmin chart plotter saying throttle sensor mot responding and on on the i5601e Yanmar panel it is blinking Main throttle and SEC throttle.

Was set in the water off a lift so was able to drive it to my slip at 3 knots. RPMs were displaying. Not sure what that sensor is detecting or used for.

2. Rear thruster not working front one does. Not even any sound coming from rear one like its jammed. From the very first try with it (short tap). Nothing at all.

So, of course it prime fishing season and we have company up from lower 48 to go out for the fourth of july week. Can I run it with this sensor not responding? If so is there a way to silence the alarm?

Sorry to read of your troubles. Is the thru hull fitting in the open position and is water coming out? If not this could be your first stated problem. On the thruster check the breaker (on the R27 it's in the genset locker) to see of it may have tripped for some reason and if so reset. Also check to see of the connections to the truster and breaker unit are tight and clean, like battery terminals they need to be cleaned and retightened occasionally.

Let us know what your final solutions are.

The thru valve is open and have good water flowing through. The engine does seem to be running well. I've only had it up to about 1000 RPMs.

I haven't found the breaker for the thruster yet to see if that is the issue. Once we get the alarm solved, we'll put more energy towards this one.

We have an R29 and it was one of the earlier ones that were built. I'm told the 4th one so not much of the current manual really does us any good in finding things.

To top things off, the company that used to sell and maintain Rangers is no longer in a relationship with Ranger and the only shop in Alaska that services the Yanmar ended their relationship last December and since they won't work on them unless they put it in we can't find a mechanic.

What we've tried so far:
1. Disconnected all the batteries in hopes it would reset.
2. Disconnected every wire plug we could see to see if there was corrosion.
3. Cussed, swore, and prayed a bit. This one made me feel the best, but still nothing.

If anyone can even tell me where the thruster sensor is that could be a big help. (More exact location than on the engine somewhere. That was what a mechanic we called told me).

With a rear thruster not responding, I would check the fuse also. On our R-25 the thruster fuse is above the battery bank on port side wall.

dont know about the engine stuff but the Thruster, I may be able to help. Like the others stated check the (ANL 150 slow blow) fuse to the thruster in the battery compartment. Check the kind of wire from the switch in the dash and then check the wire coming from the rear thruster. We found a connection under the transom step where those 2 wires meet......it was unpluged and showed the same signs you are having.....worked then it did nothing. It was the fuse looked good....but was not. I know the feeling when you are sitting there helpless with a broken boat.

Also when you disconnected all the batteries be sure to wait till all the dash control panels completely go off.....there is some amount of power in the brain that keeps it up even after the batteries have been disconnected.

Andrew, we're going to go down and spend the 4th on the boat. If your working on the 5th i would be able to call you from the boat.

I will look at the wires and connections in the compartment as you have described.

Got the thruster working. It was a disconnected battery wire. Thanks for the advice.

1 more issue (throttle sensor) to figure out and we can take her out. I guess 2 - the first finding the sensor, the second seeing if we can fix it.

I need some more help on this problem. My thruster has been working good but I've not been able to get any results with the throttle sensor alarm. Andrew was pretty sure that the problem is corrosion on a connection some where. Well, I've removed and cleaned every connection between the throttle and the engine that I can find (plus every connection I can unplug that I can find) and its not fixed it. I don't know that I've got them all, cause I don't even know where the sensor is.

I found this this weekend and I don't know what it means. This fuse is in the box on the engine (Yanmar 6BY2).

Jumper Fuse F8 (3 A) - CAN /
Analog Throttle Selection,
default is analog (fuse out).
Insert 3 A fuse to configure for
CAN.

I also found this as well. It talks about a Neutral Switch. I'm not getting any codes:

Only in case of analog throttle
or in case of CAN-fault
(U0001), wrong configuration -
neutral position

So, I don't know what CAN is. When I remove the 3 amp fuse, everything seems to work fine. No alarms, I can see my RPMs on the i5601E display (I didn't have my Garmin plotter on, so I don't know if it was on there or not).

The fuse is not something I added, it was there before I started getting the alarm 3 years ago.

Any help on what's going on would be appreciated.
