Hi Guys,

We had a boat party for one of our kids. Somehow they broke one of the forward hatches over the stateroom. The hinge is torn from the frame on one side. So I think I'll replace it. This is for a 2013 Cutwater28.

I'm not sure of the size. If I measure the outside of the frame I get 19x19 inches. If I measure on the inside I get 16x16 inches.

Anyone know? If the factory guys have a part number, even better.

BTW, I see a membrane under the frame. Is there also adhesive under there?
Thanks

Hi Martin,

Dan is right. Your hatch should be a Jim Black 16x16, part number 592-1616-05-02SC-05. We get these from HMG HiTide, so you should be able to get replacements. Just double check with them before ordering. Hope this helps.

Cheers!

Just thought I would tie this up.

Was way easier to replace this hatch than I thought it would be. Getting the correct part number reduced the stress level immensely. Thanks again guys.

I wasn't sure what has used to bed the hatch. Once I got the screws out I could gently lever out the old hatch. It looks like butyl tape was used. I love that stuff. Other materials can be harder to deal with.

The new hatch has pre-drilled holes, and they matched up with the holes previously drilled. I bought a fresh roll of Butyl Tape. Strangely, no one at West Marine knew what it was. Had to find it myself.

I put the old internal trim ring back in since it was in perfect shape and I didn't have to worry about drilling new holes. Laid down the tape, fit in the new hatch, screwed it down till I got a gentle squeeze of butyl. Good to go. Rained like heck last night, so that was a good test. Everything stayed dry.

The hatches aren't cheap, but that's boating.
