We are looking to ship our 25 classic from San Francisco Bay to Portland, Maine. We plan to use Dudley Transport. We are wondering about any preparation beyond the recommendations in the owners manual. I have a couple specific questions. Should we remove the radar mast and Bimini frame completely? Should we be concerned about rain not draining through the drain? Should we store batteries inside fearing theft! Any other?

PS. Sorry if this has been covered to death, but searching didn't give me specific info.

I've heard of several Ranger Tug owners who have had there boats shipped and they have them shrink wrapped. Not just any old way thou. Shrink wrapped down to the boot stripe and then double taped to keep the shrink wrap material firmly in place. With the shrink wrap you'll keep your boat clean and dry and out of sight from interested parties. Maybe those that have done this might reply.

most shippers will move the boat across the country pretty quickly, since they do not want to store it for any length of time. I presume the same for yours. Therefore, set it up as if you were towing it across and assume a week on the road, max. Unless your radar dome leaks (some older Garmin models had a problem), it should be fine. See other thread that advises zip tying the shrouds. As for batteries, they are a pain to steal, but if the shipper recommends putting them in the cabin, I would do it. There's no reason to remove the Bimini frame (just the Bimini) as long as you fold it and secure it well. Really, these boats are well designed for trailering/shipping!

If you do not mind, can you give us left coasters an idea of what you are paying for this? Shipping the tug to Cape Cod is currently a domestic discussion/negotiation.

Make sure the table is put down in the bed position. I do that even when I trailer the boat. The vibratin from trailering can put significant stress on the pedesatal.
