I have a 2008 Ranger tug that i just bought.
Cummins 2.0 trying to find a starter.
Tried to order one. back ordered through Merc. Marine.
starter part # 8M0228783 any ideas would be appericated.

Another great reply. it is always helpful to consult with someone who has been there and done that. I will be pulling out $20,000 of brand new engine /transmission and exhaust parts this week end. You have confirmed what I see with my own eyes with this engine. It is extremely hard to work on, parts are hard to get and stupid expensive. After I have removed the cylinder head and oil pan, I will know if any significant damage has occurred from the likely scenario the engine took a big gulp of water from hurricane Helene. Try contacting Niels Hansen on the above thread, I believe he has an engine he's pulling out of one.
I'm guessing you bought the 25 Classic in Canaveral. 🙂

If you keep striking out I have another long shot option for you on a retired motor. I've also heard that the block on that engine was used for Volkswagen diesel cars, so there's at least a chance an auto parts store might be able to match it up.

thanks for the additional info. I did buy the one in Canaveral great boat if I can get it to start LOL
