Hello Tugnutters,
First, thanks for all of the great information on this site. I have been reading for awhile but finally registered. I have been boating for several years and spend a lot of time on my parents boat. They are Live-A-Boards in Ventura.
We are hoping to buy a Ranger within a few years. It would be great to get an R27 or R29 but realistically we will be getting an R25.
We live in Arizona so it is most likely that we would find a Ranger in California. I don't currently have a truck that will tow an R25 but have access to one. My understanding it that if I buy an R25 in CA from a private party and bring in back to AZ to register it I would not be required to pay the CA sales tax. I would keep it here for awhile and eventually take in back to CA and possibly keep in a slip in San Diego. I realize I may have to pay the 1% yearly tax if I keep the boat there year round. Does that sound accurate? I know new boats take off-shore delivery and then go to Mexico for 90 days but I don't think that applies if I brought it to Arizona instead?
Also, is there a cover on the boat during towing? I've looked at several pictures of the tugs on trailers but never see a cover. I was just worried about the fiberglass and windows from rocks.
Are there placed around mission bay/shelter island/etc... That would be more affordable to keep the boat on the trailer and no drag it back and forth on the weekends or is it just cheaper to put it in a slip and keep the trailer back here in AZ?
Thanks for the help and thanks again for all the great information on this site!
