Hi everyone!

I'm thrilled to say that my wife, Judy, and I will be taking delivery of our brand new R25SC, Tug Dawg, this Thursday. We'll be keeping her in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore and look forward to exploring the Chesapeake and beyond.

I've been out of boating for about 15 years, but missed it, so here we are. I said, "Honey, we can buy a small condo at the beach, or we can buy a boat". To her everlasting credit, she said "Boat!" Gawd, I love that woman!

I've been lurking on this site for weeks, learning all I can. The wealth of information found here is amazing. Most of all, I've been impressed by the courtesy and respect with which the members treat each other. I'm honored to join.

Looking forward to becoming a member of the "Ranger Family",

Michael

Welcome Michael from a fellow "Newby".
We bought our 21-EC on August 21st this year.
I'm still under 10 hours of run time. I'm waiting
on a gallon of fresh 15w-40 oil because I think
either the factory or my dealership overfilled
the crankcase. I'll know for sure when I measure
the amount I draw out. Anyway, enough about
my trivial problem, enjoy your new tug.

Michael: Congratulations. Have fun with your new R25SC. Your boat is similar in many ways to my R-25 which I've had for just over 5 years. It has been marvelous fun and the adventures on the water will never be forgotten. Tomorrow I go out with my son and family to simply enjoy each other, the clear skies and salt water spray. Will drop off somewhere for lunch. This is what it's all about.

Enjoy your new boat. 🙂

"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing—absolute nothing—half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. Simply messing," . . . .

😀 Thanks folks!

Welcome Aboard!

Great group and great boats.

Jeff

Welcome! I have about 15 hrs on my new cutwater. Don't forget to christen your boat! Your going to love it. Have a good week...

Congratulations on your new Ranger Tug Michael, envious that you've got that great big Chesapeake Bay to explore. Lastly I could not agree with you more about having a spouse who loves to be boating, on the water, talking about boating, etc., etc....we are fortunate. Don't be shy, let us know how any of us can help you in your return to boating.

Jim

Don't take this the wrong way, but I've got warm fuzzies all over. 😀

What's the proper ceremonial ritual to christen the boat? (Boy, am I setting myself up with that question...).

Here's the copy from when we christened Kismet 3 years ago. I've also attached a link that goes directly to our blog that shows the photo's of the event and a short video.....see below and after the christening text for the link:

For thousands of years, we have gone to sea.
We have crafted vessels to carry us
and we have called them by name.
These ships will nurture
and care for us through perilous seas,
and so we affectionately call them “she.”
To them we toast, and ask to celebrate… KISMET.

To the Sailors of old… to KISMET

The moods of the sea are many, from tranquil to violent.
We ask that this ship be given the strength to carry on.
The keel is strong and she keeps out the pressures of the sea.

To the Sea…To the sailors of old… to the Sea!

Today we come to name this lady KISMET,
and send her to sea to be cared for,
and to care for the FAVORS family.
We ask the sailors of old
and the mood of God that is the sea
to accept KISMET as her name,
to help her through her passages,
and allow her to return with her crew safely.

To the sea…To the sailors before us… to KISMET.

Have fun,

Beautiful! I'll be conducting that self-same ceremony soon! I'll just have to tune-out the teenagers' sniggers. Thanks Jim!

Yes, you have opened the flood gates. Since you have a sparkling new boat, smelling of fiberglass and all the other good stuff, you have none of the anxiety/superstition of renaming and christening a boat that we had. But here is our ceremony three years ago this Thanksgiving, conducted on a dock along the Sacramento River.

"We name this ship Tugnacious, and may she bring fair winds and good fortune to all who sail on her."

(Pour champagne west to east around the boat while reading poem by Lucille Clifton)

blessing the boats

may the tide
that is entering even now
the lip of our understanding
carry you out
beyond the face of fear
may you kiss
the wind then turn from it
certain that it will
love your back
may you open your eyes to water
water waving forever
and may you in your innocence
sail through this to that

Enjoy! I still love the boat (when it runs properly) as much as the day I got it. I am sitting in the cockpit on San Francisco Bay as I write watching a glorious sunset over the Golden Gate. On those bad days (like being towed to safety by the Coast Guard), well, there is the knowledge that good days will inevitably follow.

All good days to you!

Jeff

Congratulations! Welcome to the Chesapeake Ranger Fleet which is growing quickly. You'll have to join our next rendezvous.
We have a three year old 25SC which we keep on the West River, across from Galesville. We'll look forward to seeing you on the Bay. Feel free to contact me at Coppifan@aol.com, if there's anything I can do for you. I just retired and have all the time in the world! 🙂

Michael,

Congratulations on your new boat and welcome to the Chesapeake Bay Ranger Tug family. As Bill said, we have a rendezvous every year, and this year we are hoping to have it at Rock Hall. Hopefully you'll be able to make it and meet the rest of us. Please let me know if there is any thing I can do for you as well. We've had our 27 for a couple of years and prior to that a 21.

All,

You know what they say about the two happiest days of a boaters life...well I take delivery tomorrow and along with the excitement of the new boat comes the wonderful camaraderie of this board! No way will I be this happy on the day I sell! Thank you all for your warm wishes and offers of help and I look forward to many years as part of the Ranger Tug family.

Michael,
I was talking to Tony at Pocket Yacht today and he said he has two deliveries this week. You must be one of them. Make sure you ask as many questions as you can from him and Mark (if he is there too). Tony is a great guy and extremely knowledgeable about boats in general and Definitely a brain about Ranger Tugs. Our R-31 is down in DC but it was in Baltimore last winter at the boat show downtown. Maybe someday we will get to inner harbor too.

Thanks Corey! I'm just about to close the deal and I will certainly try to learn as much as I can. My slip is at Harbor View where TrawlerFest is held next weekend.

Your boat is posted on the pocket yacht Facebook site. You must be very excited.

I am BEYOND excited. Gotta give a shoutout to both John and Tony of Pocket Yachts for their wonderful customer service. Took delivery yesterday and the boat is fabulous. I think I'm in love.

It's obvious I've got the new owner bug bad...but here's the sad part. The fam and I have to leave for a weekend out-of-town today. I won't get to play with my new tug toy until next Friday! Boo Hoo!!

LOL! I'll put on my big-boy underwear now and tough it out.

Hi Michael- Congrats! We are new owners this year too! The Ranger Tug family keeps getting bigger and better. Hopefully someday we will be out your way doing the Great Loop!
We saw a lot of R25sc's at the Roche Harbor Rendezvous, you got a nice boat!!
Welcome!
