Hello everyone!

I've been reading all of you for about 6 months now and feel like maybe I have found my clan of kindred spirits. I took a recent return trip to Alaska (spent nearly 15 years there in abodes half the size of ranger r27! and seen some crazy waters!), and while there recently with my brother and his family I happened upon a Ranger r27 in the port of Seward. Fell in love with the boat, found my retirement destiny, and now just need the support of encouragement of a bunch of Tugnuts.

Probably two more years when I make the purchase and finally move aboard my new home. But am thoroughly nervous, and pretty much a rookie with the big boats, although for 40 years I have and can hold my own in pretty big water with not much more than a 16 foot Lund and 40 hp Merc. from Alaska thru Canada to my home waters of Lake Superior. I know, I know, . . . . small fry🙂

But I'm looking forward to joining the family of Tugnuts! I'll have a million questions, be looking for even more advice, and asking for a boatload of patience, and support!

All your threads have been a world of inspiration. My plan is eventually to sell the house, and live and travel aboard my Ranger r27. I'm 64, in excellent health, and cut my teeth in the wilds of Alaska. Now, all I need is you folks. I'm honored to be aboard Tugnuts.

Best,

Hello Dreamer and welcome to TugNuts!

As you have probably already discovered, this site has a wealth of information. The Ranger Tugs team is dedicated to being helpful when the issues do crop up. And fellow folks here have an unbelievable wealth of information on practically every Tug ever produced by Fluid Motion.

The Ranger 27 is a wonderful boat. Looking to move up to one from our Ranger 25 Classic before I turn 70! There's a lot of used boats on the market and I'm sure the Ranger Tug folks would be more than happy to sell you a new R27. The Seattle Boat show in late January is a good place to go if you are looking new.

As for your questions, please ask away!

Hey, Dreamer. I'm typing this sitting aboard an R25 classic in Valdez Harbor. It's blowing 25-30kts on the sound today so early this AM we decided to up anchor and sneak into Valdez, have breakfast, attend worship service, and spend the night. These are fine boats for Alaska. Warm, dry, and seaworthy.

The R27 has virtually the same cabin as the R25 classic plus a couple extra feet of cockpit space. If you are by yourself and used to limited space, living aboard either model should be no problem. My wife and I lived aboard a 32ft sailboat for seven years. These tugs have as much or more usable space. And if you've been boating all your life regardless of the size, you'll do well.

Welcome to Tugnuts.
