Being a new 21 owner, a 2012 model I have a couple of questions.
One Engine instruments. On my most recent outing we suffered a exhaust riser failure and I understand that it was not uncommon for the 30hp Yanmar to have this. We have it repaired now, just waiting on the bill,(ouch).
It got me wondering if the GPS is tied into the engine for instruments other than the Tach,, Temp, Oil pressure...
I believe on the standard Garmin GPS unit, it could have been.

The other is the stove. I saw a thread about the Kenyon single burner butane stove was at best not a good thing and has given many troubles in the past including onboard fires, Is there a replacement that fits the cutout that others have used that are more reliable I should be looking around for?

Thanks for your input

Hey - I have a 2014 21EC. You can tie the engine information into the GPS with the Volvo-Penta engine that I have. We just did it BUT.. you need to install a NEMA backbone AND buy a $200 aftermarket interface for the engine to get temp/RPM/oil pressure to show up on an NEMA complaint GPS. It cost me about $900 to get it like you are talking about. Was it worth it? maybe - I got a new GPS with touch screen and updated maps but the engine info is nice but not super helpful. No sure if it is the same with Yanmar engine...

Stove issues -- play with it - we have had good and bad luck with the alcohol stove. Works great once its going and I seem to have lots of time when I am on the boat cooking. Replacing the center wick with new cotton helped. - search the forum for stove replacing and lots of answers/

Capdabney, the Yanmar 3Ym30 service manual recommends inspection and cleaning of the exhaust elbow every 250 hours, I believe page 50 of manual. The manual can be downloaded from the web for free. The easiest way to get the engine information (temperature and oil PSI) is to install a aftermarket set of gages and sensors the cost would be less than a $100 and you could add voltage. A small three Gage panel would fit at the helm station and vital information would be available without scrolling through the GPS.
As far as the butane stove, I have not had any problem with mine. But rarely us it as most of the cooking on board is dune on the BBQ in the cockpit area
Good luck and enjoy your boat! Bob
