Hi All. I have a question regarding oil pressure or more likely oil pressure gauge. I have a 2014 Ranger Tug Classic with the Volvo D3 engine Yesterday while cruising up to Anacortes, I noticed a high oil pressure reading - 101 psi. The gauge reading stayed high at all rpms, remained at 101 with the engine off. Checked oil and it was at its usual full mark - no change. Everything seemed normal and I continued onward. This morning I still get the 101 reading prior to starting. Has anyone experienced this situation. There's a lot of discussion in Tugnuts regarding the Yanmar oil sensor, but not any for the Volvo power plant. Thanks

My guess is the oil pressure sensor has failed. 101 psi pressure is the maximum pressure reading of that sensor. Meaning it is telling the EVC that maximum pressure is available. The EVC reads voltage from the sensor. The higher the voltage readings the higher the pressure reading. When the resistance is lowered the oil pressure reads higher oil pressure. When the EVC gets a reading of 4.5 V the gauge will show 101psi. If the reading is staying at 101 psi the sensor is mostly bad. Or a faulty connection.

Thanks Brian for your response and analysis. I will double check connections and go from there. Since I also have the D3 I have appreciated your insights during the last 3+ years we have owned our Ranger Tug 27. You have answered many questions I never even asked. Many thanks!

As far as Tugnuts goes, Brian it the "Head Nut!"
