After cleaning the main sea strainer recently (some eel grass, but not much), I noticed on our next trip on the boat that the temperature was reading high only when I had the boat running above 3200 rpm. Everything was normal if the boat was running less than 3000 rpm. But when pushed up to 3,200 rpm, engine temperature would climb to 218 degrees F, and then I would pull the throttles back. Temperature would return to 200. Also seemed to have more exhaust smoke than usual. Had recently changed impeller and did not think it was the problem. Coolant level was good. Also noticed that the main sea strainer would not totally fill with water. There would be a large bubble of air in the top of the main sea strainer. Tried several recommended techniques, but could not get rid of that air bubble. Pulled the boat out of the water and sure enough, there was eel grass that was plugging part of the thru hole outlet for the main sea strainer. Cleaned it off, took a test run and everything was ops normal. Sea Strainer filled with water and temperature at 3600 was 200 degrees F.
