We wanted to know on the Honda generator model EU2000i when we plug into boat the reverse polarity light shows up on panel. Any way to correct that? Jill and Marty.

has anyone used the honda 1000? It is so light and easy to work with. Just wondering what others have experienced?

At 1000 watts that gives you about 9 amps or so. So figure out what you could run using 9 amps and see if it will work for you. At 1000 watts I would use my inverter which is 1500 watts before I would go through the trouble of carrying around the generator and gas. Quite frankly, after 4 years of using my Honda 2000 three times (and that was to make sure it was working okay) I took it off the boat. I do have the solar panel and joined my thruster battery to the house. When I anchor out I am at 90% charge in the morning. I also have a propane stove so the coffee is made with a French press. What works for me may not work for you though. For my money if I were going to buy a portable I would go with the 2000.

The Honda EU1000 is light and very easy to carry and very quiet. The output is very stable and works well with computers and electronic devices. If your boat is set up to operate on 12 volts, the smaller generator works well for powering the battery charger and a computer or two. If your on the hook, it is much quieter that the on-board generator and much more economical to run than the diesel engine to charge batteries. The output is really limited to 900 watts continuous, so you will need to be very selective on what appliances you operate. The EU2000 is heavier, but can still be carried. It can also be paralleled with another 2000. Much more usable power. Our Dealership sells 10 EU 2000's to 1 EU 1000.

I'm looking at the Hyundai HY2000si which is quite a bit less $ than the Honda and looks to have a peak or surge output of 2200 and non peak 2000. Other than brand reputation and loyalty - can anybody that knows more than I do about this (that's probably all of you) weigh in on this potential choice. I think my use would be occasional but to be honest, my D3 smokes so much until warm that if I needed to run it for a while at a dock or in a cove, I would not be popular.

Thanks Folks

The reliability of the Honda generators are legendary. We have many customers that bought the cheap lookalikes and eventually (after much frustration) throw them away and buy the Honda or Yamaha generators. Yes - Yamaha makes generators also. They are of equal quality as the Honda, but not as well known. Not to bad mouth all other generators - just my experience as a dealer for 10 years.

Generator works great. The reverse polarity light came on dimly but worked great. Heated water I less than 30 min. One warning is put on swim step NOT on back deck. We had carbon monoxide alarm go off. Wondering why we were feeling dizzy. Silent killèr. You bet.

We used a Honda 2000i for a number of years on our catamaran. The reverse polarity light would come on but once we closed the main breaker and had a load on, it would go out. The Honda handled everything we needed but be careful with the ethanol gas. Run the Honda at least once a week to get fresh gas into the carb or there will be problems.
