I want to change the source of flushing water from raw to fresh by adding a separate fresh water tank. But i cannot find any markings on the hose going from the sea strainer to the head. Any ideas on the hose diameter?

If you do that you will need to also add a pump to push the fresh water into the toilet bowl. I switched my R-25's manual marine head to an electric flush and simply plumbed in the boats fresh water line for it. I just had to ensure the boat's fresh water pump breaker was ON for flushing. We did this as we never use the boat's fresh water for drinking; only used it for washing dishes and the odd shower. It also avoided any nasty smells that salt water causes.

On mine the engine strainer has 3 hoses, two black one white, the white one is for the toilet. You will find a few posts here about adding a diverter and some one way valves and hooking into the fresh water supply.
I do like your idea of a separate tank though to save your tap water. Check this site http://www.rangertug25-solitude.com/our-karma.html David did a ton of mods to his 29 when he had it. One was adding a 20 gal tank in behind the fridge. His was an add on to his fresh water. For what you want , you would need to add another filler and vent to keep it totally separate .
Good luck and posts lots about how you make out for others to learn from

Another option is to use the sink extension hose to add fresh water for your flushes. This method, although not automatic, is a solution without adding expense to the equation.

Mine is a 2017 29S with an electric head. How does adding water to the bowl help since the internal pump still needs a source of water?

I have the 29CB and adopted the cheaper, easier and even more effective "use the sink" method. We did this on our 27 too.

Just pull out the sink faucet, turn water on into the bowl, and press and hold down the flush and fill buttons simultaneously for about one second. That triggers the "empty only" cycle (you will find this in the head manual). Depending on how you used the toilet, this gives you precise control over flush outs and bowl clearing. I am being circumspect with my language since this is a family friendly chat room.

As a veteran of this technique, it really works and reduces hassle and most important, greatly reduces foul smells from the tank. Just be sure to double flush when putting the smelly stuff into the tank. This is to clear the hose that goes to the tank.

The only downside is having to explain all this to your guests who will occasionally just hit the flush button and pump seawater in, with lots of foul smells from sitting in the raw water line. Peeeuuuw.

Jeff - Thanks I will give it a try.
