hot water and cabin heater

The antifreeze loop from my 110 Yanmar for cabin heater and hot water tank is circulated by a Johnson 12 volt pump. I am considering putting a switch on the 12 volt supply to stop circulation on warmer days. Good idea? Bad idea?

You will probably still get natural circulation. You would be better off, if it has a fuse, pull out the fuse or add the switch and see how that works. You should then probably add a valve to prevent the water from naturally circulating.

Another option for a modification to your cabin water heating system, install a 12volt normally closed valve in line with the pump. One switch to power both so when you power the pump the valve opens, when you turn off pump valve will automatically shuts off hot water to cabin. This DIY modification would cost less than $50, parts easily obtained on Amazon. One switch to turn on for hot water or heat .Bob
