Hot water heater anode

I could be wrong, but I would assume that having an anode may help the tank, but it won't stop particles from clogging your strainer. Whether it is your tank or the anode, one of them is going to release particles into the water.

I have the valve and no anode on my tank and I am concerned my tank likely has a lot of build up in it. It is also 8 years old. My thought is to replace the valve with an anode. I drain the tank once a year to winterise and its a good practice to check your anode once a year. Seems opportune to change the anode yearly as part of the winterising exercise. They are cheap and readily available. I like the idea of Anti Seize!
