If your going to be fishing around the narrows or Point Defiance, Three places come to mind. In Des Moines there is the Marina motel located a few blocks up from the marina. Nothing fancy but decent. Des Moines has nice moorage and the cheapest fuel around. Anthonys restaurant is near by.
In Tacoma the is the Silver Cloud on the water just outside and west of the Thea Foss waterway. It has a seasonal dock for drop off. The closest moorage is inside the waterway up at dock street. Dock St is an urban envioronment so a little noisier but the Washington state history museum and the glass museum is right there. Nice restaurants in the area. Oh and there is the Lamey(sp) car museum in the area too. Harmons brewery on Pacific, just over the skybridge is a great place to eat and grab a micro brew. There is also a Courtyard very close to Dock street that might work for you but may be pricey.
The third town would be Gig Harbor. If you haven't been there its sort of like a new England harbor town. There is a public dock which doesn't have power and several private ones. Restaurants close by the water. The Maritime Inn is near the waterfront. Even if you don't stay there its a great place for lunch. The Tides Tavern has a free dock to tie to and great pub food, fish and chips etc. Great Tourist town. If you like Bourbon, Heritage distillery just opened a tasting room on the waterfront.
There isn't much in motels near docks south of the Narrows bridge to Olympia. Another good lunch spot is the Narrows Marina. The Restaurant is nice and there is a micro brewery on site if your guests like tasting. If you tie there try to get inside the docks. If not throw down some extra fenders as it can get rocky. Steilicoom south of the Narrows Bridge is another nice place to stop for lunch. Free day tie up at the ferry landing. Bair drugstore is a historic restaurant and they have a restored house and small museum with local history that is well done. The Topside has good food too.
