I have friends coming in from Oklahoma for a few days to drift fish salmon on the Olympic Penninsula. While they are here we want to show them the Puget Sound area (from Seattle to Olympia) in our 25SC Ranger Tug. They have never been in the northwest and we want to give them a first class tour of God's country. An overnight would be great but we need to know where there is moorage with hotels within easy walking distance. Wife and I will sleep on the boat. Guests will visit the hotel. Any suggestions??

This is a good question for many of us who occasionally have visitors from out of the area. I hope many respond with local information.
There's a Comfort Inn near (walking distance) the Port Orchard Marina.

Rosario Resort on Orcas Island is one of our favorites. Also several good hotels are near Cap Sante at Anacortes. Majestic, Sunrise Inn, and Cap Sante Inn to name a few.

We used the Majestic Inn at Anacortes and the Rosario Resort to give our friends from Texas a tour or the San Juan's on our 27 last year.

We stayed in the Sunrise Inn earlier this year.

Activecaptain.com is a good place to start. In the detail page for each marina there is a services tab. One item listed is the availability of nearby hotels/motels. The name of the hotel is not listed, but sometimes one of the reviews will comment on restaurants or hotels by name. Or call the marina and ask.

If your going to be fishing around the narrows or Point Defiance, Three places come to mind. In Des Moines there is the Marina motel located a few blocks up from the marina. Nothing fancy but decent. Des Moines has nice moorage and the cheapest fuel around. Anthonys restaurant is near by.
In Tacoma the is the Silver Cloud on the water just outside and west of the Thea Foss waterway. It has a seasonal dock for drop off. The closest moorage is inside the waterway up at dock street. Dock St is an urban envioronment so a little noisier but the Washington state history museum and the glass museum is right there. Nice restaurants in the area. Oh and there is the Lamey(sp) car museum in the area too. Harmons brewery on Pacific, just over the skybridge is a great place to eat and grab a micro brew. There is also a Courtyard very close to Dock street that might work for you but may be pricey.
The third town would be Gig Harbor. If you haven't been there its sort of like a new England harbor town. There is a public dock which doesn't have power and several private ones. Restaurants close by the water. The Maritime Inn is near the waterfront. Even if you don't stay there its a great place for lunch. The Tides Tavern has a free dock to tie to and great pub food, fish and chips etc. Great Tourist town. If you like Bourbon, Heritage distillery just opened a tasting room on the waterfront.
There isn't much in motels near docks south of the Narrows bridge to Olympia. Another good lunch spot is the Narrows Marina. The Restaurant is nice and there is a micro brewery on site if your guests like tasting. If you tie there try to get inside the docks. If not throw down some extra fenders as it can get rocky. Steilicoom south of the Narrows Bridge is another nice place to stop for lunch. Free day tie up at the ferry landing. Bair drugstore is a historic restaurant and they have a restored house and small museum with local history that is well done. The Topside has good food too.
