December is a good time for snow activities such as snow shoeing, cross country skiing, scenic drives in the North Cascades, snow mobile rides.
Ballet: The famous Nutcraker performances by the PNW Ballet company. My daughter #2 (Vanessa Sharp) played Clara in several of the stage performances and acted/danced Younger Clara in "Nutcracker: The Motion Picture". --
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutcracker:_The_Motion_Picture, so I'm kind of biased on this suggestion.
🙂
You might checked what activities are at Tacoma Dome.
Kent/Monroe Ranger Tug tours...
The Boeing factory tour in Everett (need to make reservations and children under 12 not permitted).
Some to notch restaurants/eateries - Seattle Space needle for the awesome view over the city and Elliot Bay; Canlis Restaurant, Café Juanita (Kirkland)... Spuds Fish & Chips (Kirkland... the very best Fish & Chips you'll get anywhere IMO)... Preservation Kitchen (Bothell), Wineries in Woodinville, The Willows Lodge/Barking Frog, and if you really want to spend some real brass The Herb Farm in Woodinville (at least 10 courses served along with companion wines... you'll have to make advanced, and I mean advanced reservations for The Herb Farm)... while in Woodinville, drop in on Jeff Messmer (ha ha)... and check the web for more
Boat tour/ride over to Blake Island
iFly in South Center... a vertical wind tunnel that people actually fly in... I believe there are only 3 or 4 in the country... my 4 year old grand son and I did this last year as our birthdays are just a few days apart. This is an awesome ride/flight where you wear special flying suits. Be sure to get the flash photo they take and have someone take a video while you fly.
While we're on flying... if weather good and anyone in your group likes to fly then take a glider tour... Arlington airport some 40 miles north of Seattle and can be reached via I-5 interstate easily. Also a quick flight from Kenmore up to the Orcas Island might also be in order.
Ferry ride over to the Olympic Peninsular and then a drive over to Port Townsend and take the road up to Hurricane Ridge for awesome snowy views and the mountain peaks. Check that the road up to the Ridge is open before going though.
I'll also ask my son and daughter #1 who have lived most of their lives in Seattle from pre teenage years... I bet they have some different suggestions for you.
Christmas boat rides when other boats are parading around Lake Washington adorned with Christmas lights and music. They stop at various places along the way (not docking, just hovering offshore) and play classical music etc. It's a real treat to see and sets you into the Christmas mood so to speak.
Gambling at Casinos in the area.
If you want more suggestions just say the word....
