Busy day today, Made an offer on a '04 21 Ranger in Traverse City, Mi. and the deal was accepted. I live in Fl. but find many excuses, as if I need any being retired, to come north or west for the summers. I've lived most of my life in Western Washington so I'm not a stranger to Ranger Tugs and C-dorys having owned several of the latter. I was living in Friday Harbor when I saw my first and if the old memory is still working I think it was called a Vashon. I think I'll cruise the waters of Michigan this year and trailer her out to the NW next year. I'm going to look seriously at the Eastern Tug Events.

I'll probably have lots of questions next week when I take delivery but today I just want to know what my MMSI number is? I was going to fill in the info for the news letter when I came to the request for it and I am drawing a blank

To get an MMSI number, you need to apply - it's basically a VHF radio "phone" number for the boat. You can get a number free from BoatUS - on line, and program it into your VHF radio

It goes without saying, your VHF radio must have MMSI capability. Your radio's operators manual will lead you thru the programming steps.

Congratulations and welcome to the Ranger fleet. You're going to look fine cruising Grand Traverse Bay. Vicki has family in Traverse City and on the U.P., and most of them are envious of our tug. If you decide to trailer up to the U.P. for a some inland lake exploring, check out Muskallonge Lake State Park (good fishing and boat ramp) and stop by Deer Park Lodge and say hi to Vicki's brother Mike, they've got a dock.

Thanx 4 all the info. I'm on my way back to TC and I'll check out the radio closer. I'm pretty sure it was a Ranger installed option in '04. We've decided to keep the tug here in Mi. at least for the summer so I've marked the charts with your U P suggestions. We'll tell 'em you sent us.

If you got the radio with the boat and it already has an MMSI number in it (assuming it has the DSC capability at all), you may or may not be able to change the number to your own depending on the radio. What type of radio is it? Make and Model and I'll see if I can get you instructions on how to do it and a manual for it.
