Hull# 2724 Day 4

Today was another great day in seeing progress in putting Current Obsession together, the crew at Ranger was treated to Top Pot doughnuts this AM and I got to see the finished house sitting outside waiting to be put on and the stringer suspended so I could see all the wiring, hoses and what have you. then the coup de grass was that I got to see the insert being fitted into the hull.

This was one additional step in embracing that we have a boat underway, last I was in Kent there was 3 pieces, now its down to 2 and next time I see her she will just be in one piece.

Jurgen, what a treat to see the photos you are taking! Your upgrades are giving me an education as I check them out and learn more -- like the Smartplug (a great upgrade), which I had not heard of before.

Out of curiosity (perhaps not so idle, since we are considering a new R-27), are you making or considering other changes/upgrades? It is so helpful to see what you and others have done. Thanks!

Hi Gin, well for starters Ranger Tugs are so well thought through to begin with, on top of that I am benefiting from several iterations prior to mine so it’s not easy to come up with things to improve and or change.

Mine were just minor things I thought were important to me, but aside from what’s mentioned above we just added down rigger support with bases and outlets and bought a Yakima skibox for the roof rack.

Will your R27 be completely ready for the Fishermans meeting ? If so it will be a marvelous opportunity to not only see/review yours but also Capt. Mac's... really looking forward to seeing these new 2013 R27s.

I note the toilet position and the electrical outlet. I installed the exact same toilet in my R25 -- "Tecmar EasyFit ECO Short" based on seeing it and having it demoed at the 2011 Seattle Boat show and it has given me no problems for 2 years since installing it. I paid $750 for it at the time. I plumbed it to use fresh water rather than raw water, but made it easy to convert back to using raw water if ever I felt the need to switch. Your toilet positioning looks very much like on my R25. The issue I have is that the toilet seat/lid when raised will contact the electrical outlet. No big issue but if you have something plugged in, there's interference that may damage something. Check to see where the toilet lid contacts the sides and check to see if it comes in contact with the electrical flip cover. If it contacts just one side wall then the lid will get twisted if any pressure is placed on it. Ideally you want it to touch both side walls when raised. If it contacts the electrical outlet's cover and you lean back heavily you might deform or even break the lid in some weird way.

I like the new throttle lever and integrated switches in its base... are these switches for the thrusters or something else? If not for the thrusters then what ?

Is the helm wheel black or very dark brown simulated wood ?

I'm anxious to see the new Volvo 200 engine color display and how better it is compared to the traditional R25's Yanmar engine display.

Is the Galvanic Isolator located in the cockpit's starboard or port side locker ?

It will be done for Fisherman for sure, I will take possession at the end of March, the galvanic isolator is in the port side locker, and the wheel is no different than the regular one, maybe my pictures are a bit dark.

Jurgen, we won't be able to make the Fisherman's Terminal meet up (wish we could). Thanks for the offer for the tour -- it would be great to see it then. I just realized, though, that I may get to see your boat anyway. We are taking a factory tour on Friday, before we do a sea trial of the R-27. Work on your boat is likely to be in full swing while we are there!

Just a quick question. The extra doors in the mid ship berth, did you ask for that or is that now "standard". I would think that would be standard as getting into the cave can be "challanging". 😀

I strongly suspect that mid ship berth (cave) 'extra' door is optional... but as things go during a purchase all things are negotiable... 😉

The mid ship berth doors are not standard, it was something I have seen several folks do, either as doors or drawers, this seems to me like a trivial task post delivery, standard doors and a jig-saw but I asked Ranger if they could accommodate the request and like my other ones handled individually by time/materials formula.
